    My sweet friend, Merle, passed away at the age of 111 on August 18th, 2018, when our school year was starting.  Thank you to all the literally hunderds of students who helped me make her Valentines' Day happier since 2013 when she had to be in the hospital.  Here was the last card I had taken her:
