Principal Email Update 5/22/23
Traughber Families:
I hope you have enjoyed this beautiful weekend and are ready to help your student through the last week of school. As a reminder, we have school every day this week, including an early release day on Friday at 11:40.
Here is what is covered in this email:
School Spirit Days this week--encourage your student to participate!
Ending the year strong-academically and socially
8th grade promotion updates
Panther Party this Friday
Yearbook distribution this Thursday
Opportunities for summer learning
Helping your student stay safe this summer
School Spirit Days this week--encourage your student to participate! Student Council is sponsoring spirit days to wrap up the year…encouage your student to have fun with these days:
Monday (Shine Bright), Tuesday (Dress to Impress), Wed., (Wacky Day), Thurs. (Sports Day), Fri. (Hello Summer!)
Ending the year strong-academically and socially. Regardless of the final calendar date of a school year, there are wrap up days to get work finalized and materials turned in or picked up. All library books should have been returned by now. Students should bring their charged chromebooks through this Thursday, but they will not need it Friday. Students should know (via their Google Classrooms) when final work is to be turned in. Expectations for behavior continue until your student gets home Friday afternoon…every Traughber student knows they are expected to ROAR--be Respectful, On Task, always SAFE, and Responsible through the end of school, including at our Panther Party, end of year assembly, signing yearbooks…everywhere! Our students know that if they want to participate in these fun activities, their behavior needs to show it all week. These are pretty good expectations for summer and life in general, too!
8th Grade Promotion updates: Students received their 5 tickets on May 12. Please reach out to other classmates if you are seeking extra tickets. Doors will open at the OHS gym at 6:00 with open seating, with the ceremony set to begin at 6:30pm. There will be handicap seating available. This is a special event, so students are encouraged to dress for the occasion. We will hold a rehearsal for 8th graders this Wednesday morning during 1st and 2nd periods. While our promotion ceremony is Thursday evening, students are expected at school on Friday!
Panther Party this Friday-This Friday is an early release day at 11:40. Students will have the option to purchase food items at the event. Details will be shared with students this week. The forecast for Friday is perfect (apply sunscreen before school!). This is a perfect way to celebrate our 8th graders heading to high school and kick off summer vacation!
Yearbook distribution this Thursday-Yearbooks will be distributed to students who purchased them this Thursday during SST. Make sure your student writes their name in their book as soon as it is received. We will remind students that all book signing should be appropriate!
Opportunities for summer learning-Students in grades 6-8 math can continue working on Successmaker math (they will love this suggestion!) as it should be operational through June or until our district rolls over to next school year. They know their login! Fifteen minutes twice a week will help them maintain and/or grow their skills. Also, our LRC will offer some fun summer reading opportunities…check out the LRC website or the attached flyer!
Helping your student stay safe this summer-Summertime, free time and adolescence is not necessarily a recipe for safe choices. Yes, your student KNOWS better. That said, our students benefit from boundaries and expectations to guide their choices. Please repeat your expectations often despite the eye rolls! Keep an eye on their online activity, know where they are going and with whom, and ask lots of annoying questions! I hope you all have an amazing and safe summer!
Don’t forget, stay up to date by checking the TRAUGHBER WEBSITE and the SD308 WEBSITE. There you will find information about registration, immunization and other important details about the start of school.
Finally--we have LOTS OF LOST ITEMS, INCLUDING NICE COATS AND JACKETS! Is your student missing something? Items left will be donated June 1.
Now, let’s get ready for the best week!
