Home & School Update
Dear Hunt Club Parents:
Happy New Year! Please accept my apologies for the delay in writing a Home & School newsletter. The 2014-15 academic year has been a busy and successful one for the Hunt Club Home & School organization. Here is a recap of the first semester:
Following a successful Boosterthon in September, with more than $11,000 raised, the H&S purchased a Safari Wild Web for the gymnasium and hosted the BMX bike assembly. A Halloween Fun Night, featuring a haunted house, games and a dee-jay, was hosted in October and drew a large crowd. (Ruby Reveles, co-chair). Staff appreciation lunches were organized by Jeannine Thacker and held in August, November and December. Our annual pie sale, chaired by Christina Cagle, made more than $1,700 for the school. Thank you to all who purchased. The H&S also produced a family directory, provided support for the annual book sale (coordinator, Bonnie Spevere), and offered a Friday afternoon Running Club (chairman, Brad Banks).
Now we move on to the New Year. The H&S met Tuesday, Jan. 13, and awarded more than $3,000 in grants to Hunt Club staff members for various educational purposes. Congratulations to the following grant recipients:
1. Jenna Lockhart, $469.20 to buy books for teachers: "The Next Step in Guided Reading: Focused Assessments & Targeted Lessons for Helping Every Student Become a Better Reader."
2. Lindsay Sillis, $500 to purchase high-interest books for reluctant readers.
3. Allison Foster and Michelle Benevelli, $350.10 for literacy and math enrichment games and books.
4. Maureen Wilson and Karla Willett, $404 for Goldiblox for Speech, complete bundle for each SLP.
5. Katrina Witwicki, $499.43 to purchase 35 eBooks for Learning Center.
6. Aurora Garcia and Luisiana Gonzalez, $173.25 for materials for the annual writers’ workshop.

In addition to providing these grants, our parents’ organization has been busy with a number of events and activities. Please congratulate Mark Stewart for an outstanding job coordinating the school variety show last week. The kids and parents who attended had a blast. Thank you, Mark!
Our next big event is the Father-Daughter Dance scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost of the dance is $10 per couple, $3 for each additional daughter. Wooden red roses are for sale for $5 each. Dance chairwoman Lisa Kaufman is looking for donated baked goods to offer at the event. Lkaufman2005@yahoo.com Thanks for organizing, Lisa!
Plans are also in the works for Battle of the Books (March 19, chairwoman, Tina Gonzalez), the Mother-Son outing (April 17, chairwoman, Kelli Mortenson), Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4, chairwoman, Cheryl Jordan) and Field Day (May 15, chairwoman, Missi Hartmann.)
Please note that the date for the Mom-Son event has been changed and mark your calendars accordingly. Information on these events will come home in your Thursday folders at the dates draw closer.
In addition, the Home & School is sponsoring an author’s visit next week. Kathryn Otoshi, author of “One,” is expected Tuesday, Feb. 3.
A teacher appreciation breakfast is being planned for Feb. 11, and we are looking for monetary donations to buy tasty doughnuts, bagels and coffee for our staff. A flier regarding donations went home in backpacks last week. The contact person for that event is Jeannine Thacker at jthacker1970@gmail.com
