Good Morning Mavericks! Today is Friday, March 1st, 2019
Hey Mavs! Saturday March 2nd would be Doctor Seuss’ 115th birthday. In honor of our upcoming musical, “Seussical,” and of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the Murphy Drama Department wanted to share some interesting facts about his life throughout the rest of the week. Did you know that Doctor Seuss was not his given name? It was a nickname he assumed during his time in college. He had gotten in trouble and as a punishment was told he could no longer publish any of his works. He started to publish works under the pen name Doctor Seuss so that no one knew who was writing them. This was the introduction of one of the most popular literary names in history! Honor Doctor Seuss’ 115th birthday by coming out to see the Murphy Drama Department’s production of Seussical the Musical on Thursday March 14 or Friday March 15. The show begins at 7PM in the Murphy Cafeteria. Tickets cost $5 and doors will open at 6:30PM. There will be a bakesale where all items cost $1. We hope to see you there!

Last night, the 7th grade lady Mavericks suffered a tough loss to an improved Thompson team to finish their season. In a tight battle, the Mavericks were able to hold a slim 2 point lead at halftime. In the second half, the Mavericks found it difficult to get shots to fall. Meanwhile, Thompson was able to sink some 3 pointers and create some breakaways to pull ahead for the 29 to 20 victory. The Mavericks finished with a great 5 and 3 record. In the second game, the Mavericks were able to bring home the school's first undefeated season with a 26 to 9 victory. Six Mavericks were able to score in the game with Shemaiah leading with 6 points. Shyell, Madison, Zakayia, and Emma Kincaid each added 4 points. For the season, the Mavericks were 8 and 0. Congratulations on a great season Mavericks.
Last night the 8th grade girls played their last game for Murphy against Thompson. Thompson came out and scored some quick buckets and we went down by 6. At halftime and the end of 3rd quarter we still were down by 6. By the 4th quarter the girls picked it up and turned it on Allie P hit a free throw and Avery and Erika hit some shoots at the end when we needed them to put us into overtime. We took the lead in overtime until the last 20 seconds and had a chance at the end to knock down a shot but we fell short by 2 points. High scorers were Avery with 12, Allie P with 9 and Erika with 8. In the second game it was a close game all the way through. In the fourth quarter it came down to the last 30 seconds. We had a couple chances to put the game away but missed some shots and had some turn overs. Thompson came down and hit a shot and went up by 2 and we also fell short in the second game. High scorers were Dana with 6 Gabby and Megan with 4 and Natalie and Jessica both contributed a basket. Great season ladies!
