AP Human Geography Unit 7 Agriculture Lesson Plans - 2022
Day 1: Monday, March 7th
Objectives: Students will analyze the origins of Agriculture.
Activities:
- In your own words, what is agriculture?
- Collect Chapter 10 Key Issue 1
- Start Guns, Germs, & Steel episode 1 with Video Guide (35 Min)
HW: Hand out Agriculture Origins and Revolutions W.S. Due Wednesday
Day 2: Tuesday, March 8th
Objectives: Students will analyze the origins of Agriculture and its hearths. Students will analyze globalization and the effects of the Columbian Exchange on the World’s diet.
Activities:
- Finish Guns, Germs, and Steel episode 1 with Video Guide (15 Min)
- Read the New World Food article and answer questions
- Crop Hearths and Relocation Diffusion PPT with Notes Guide
HW: Finish the Agriculture, Origins and Revolutions W.S. Packet / Due tomorrow
Day 3: Wednesday, March 9th
Objectives: Students will identify and explain/examine the effects of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Agricultural Revolutions on the world’s population. (Hint: Think about the DTM and migration)
Activities:
- Intro to Agriculture PPT and the three revolutions / with notes guide
HW: Ch. 10, Key Issue #3 (extremely long section) due Friday
Day 4: Thursday, March 10th
Objectives: Students will analyze the different types of agriculture in MDC’s and LDC’s.
Activities:
- Discuss Types of Agriculture (Subsistence Agriculture) (PPT / Guided Notes)

Day 5: Friday, March 11th
Objectives: Students will analyze the different types of agriculture in MDC’s and LDC’s.
Activities:
- Discuss Commercial Agriculture (PPT / Guided Notes)

Day 6: Monday, March 14th
Objective: Students will look at the commercial production of food in the United States.
Activities:
- America Revealed EdPuzzle
- Look at the positives and negatives of Commercial Farming
HW: Finish the last 15 minutes of the video and turn in the EdPuzzle

Day 7: Tuesday, March 15th
No School - Teachers Institute Day
Day 8: Wednesday, March 16th
Objectives: Students will look at food insecurity in rural and urban areas and how it can lead to serious medical issues. Students will analyze the connections between the food we and other cultures eat, and what it tells us about development, economics, quality of life, and globalization.
Activity:
- Food Swamps and Deserts
- Guerilla Gardener video clip (10 Min)
- Food insecurity PPT (Causes/Riddles)

Day 9: Thursday, March 17th
Students will analyze the current issues facing food supply and the challenges associated with the different strategies used to increase it. Students will also be able to identify pros and cons of GMO’s.
Activities:
- Questions on the Food Insecurity Hand out
- Strategies to Increase Food Supply/Sustainable Agriculture and GMO’s PPT with notes guide
- Watch “The Future of Farming and Agriculture “
- Watch Terrace Farming short video
HW: South America and Unit 7 Vocab Quiz is tomorrow
Key Issue #4 is due Monday
Day 10: Friday, March 18th
Objectives: Students will also be able to identify pros and cons of GMO’s. Students will analyze the current issues facing food supply and the challenges associated with the different strategies used to increase it. Students will be assessed on Agriculture Vocabulary and South American Countries
Activities:
- Take the South American and Unit 7 Vocab Quiz
- Finish discussing Positives and Negatives of GMO’s
- The Meatrix and Store Wars Videos
HW: Hand out the study guide
Key Issue #4 Due Monday
Day 11: Monday, March 21st
Objectives: Students will analyze Von Thunen’s Agricultural Model & be able to explain each of the rings. Students will be assessed on Unit 7 by completing the take home FRQ.
Activities:
- List one example of how food preservation shows development.
- Discuss the Von Thunen Model (PPT)
