    UNIT 7 BLOOD 

      Objectives:   

    1.  Describe the primary function(s) of blood.
    2.  Describe the composition and volume of whole blood.
    3.  Describe the composition of plasma and discuss its importance in the body.

    4.  Explain the terms hematocrit and buffy coat.

    5.  List the 3 major cell types comprising the formed elements.  Describe the major characteristics and functions of each type

    6.  Differentiate between the 2 categories of leukocytes and the functions of the various types within each category.

    7.  What is hematopoiesis and the importance of hemocytoblasts.

    8.  Explain the feedback system that controls red blood cell formation

    9.  Describe the ABO and Rh blood groups and explain the factors that determine a person`s blood type.
    10.  Explain the physiology behind the body's reaction to an incorrect transfusion.
