A Quick Message from Superintendent Dr. Sparlin
Hello SD 308 Family,
I hope this message finds you well. Later today I am requesting through our parent newsletter that families take some time to talk with their child(ren) about the importance of keeping threatening words and/or inappropriate discussions out of school. Recently we've worked through a number of situations where students said things that caused fear in others. While harmful intentions may not always be real, if potentially threatening language or topics are discussed it necessitates a response. We want all our students and our staff to feel safe while at school and we try to minimize disruptions as much as possible.
Please continue to help push the message of “See Something, Say Something” to our students. I am so proud of the students who have come forward to report to a trusted adult when things they see or hear are concerning. We take each of these reports seriously and conduct a full investigation in order to maintain a safe learning environment in our schools.
It's important that we remind students that their choice of words and actions can cause serious repercussions when they generate fear and disruption at school. Resources are used each time we investigate these situations, including consultation and sometimes response from police.
It's hard for students to understand that even when they're joking, certain statements have to be taken seriously and consequences may be significant.
I appreciate your help in reiterating this important message to your students.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and stay warm as temperatures drop and the snow continues to fall. As always, know that you are valued and appreciated here at SD 308!

John

For parents, this opportunity allows them to share their thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about their child’s school. If at least 20 percent of parents at each school complete this survey, a parent supplement report will be generated.
To take the survey visit https://survey.5-essentials.
